Sail along the Shimmering Backwaters of Kerala in a Kettuvallam

One of the biggest crowd-pullers in India is the chain of Kerala backwaters. The state of Kerala is known for many things, but it's the Kerala backwaters which have turned the state into a big hub of travellers. Lying parallel to the Arabian Sea coast (referred to as the Malabar Coast), the Kerala backwaters is an intricate maze of lakes, canals, rivers and inlets. The entire waterway measures 900 km in length, often compared to the American Bayou. What makes these backwaters even more interesting is the presence of cities and towns that lie on the banks.

Famous backwater destinations in Kerala include Cochin, Thekkady, Kumarakom, Alleppey and Kovalam. During your backwaters tour in the state, you'll enjoy a sightseeing tour of Munnar and Cochin at first. Cochin is known worldwide for uniquely beautiful Chinese Fishing nets, the Dutch Palace, the Jewish Synagogue and the St. Francis Church. Munnar is an excellent wildlife destination and a hill station too. Later, you will visit the very famous Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, specially visited for its huge population of frolicking elephants. Your next destination is Kumarakom, aptly termed as the 'Motherland of Kerala Backwaters'. After enjoying a sightseeing tour of the picturesque town of Kumarakom, get ready for a backwater cruise in a traditional houseboat, known as Kettuvallam.

Sailing along the shimmering backwaters of Kerala in a Kettuvallam will give you an opportunity to experience from close quarters the day-to-day life of people who live on the banks of these backwaters. Enjoy the cruise up to Alleppey. Next, drive to Kovalam, a wonderful beach destination in Kerala. The Kerala Backwater tour has been designed not just to help you discover the charm of the backwater destinations at its best but also a lot more that's unique to the state.
