Dudhasagar (literary meaning Sea of Milk) fall is a spectacular sight that mustn’t be missed on your trip to Goa. It is one of the highest waterfalls in the country. The Arvalem waterfall near Bicholim town is also a very popular tourist point. The beaches in Goa contrast with each other; while some are tranquil & serene, the others are happening and full of life. Set amid the Candolim and Baga beach, Calangute is one of the most happening beaches in North Goa. It stretches 7km along the Arabian Sea and is popular for water sports. Whereas Baga Beach makes you enjoy life at its best. It has several shacks that play amazing tracks till late at night. This beach is perfect for a party and even when you want to soak in the sun. Anjuna beach is the place to party and shop. The soft sand on the beach, beautiful shacks and swaying coconut palms will set the right mood to party the entire night. On the contrary, Colva beach is a less crowded beach at a distance of 6km from Margao in South Goa. It is ideal for long walks and family vacations. Majorda beach is a popular attraction of South Goa for spectacular views and serenity. It is a white sand beach that has shacks, restaurants and water sports. Along with these, some of the other beaches that are frequently visited in Goa are Vagator beach - palm-fringed rock cliff beach with white sand, and Palolem Beach – popular for scuba diving, kayaking and canyoning

Goa is much beyond beaches, shacks and water sports. The history and heritage of this place stand tall, reflected in its forts, churches and other by gone-era architectural marvels. Ruled by the Portuguese for decades, Goa is the only gateway to relics of the Portuguese in India. Cobo Fort - on the southern coast of Goa, was rebuilt after being taken over by the Portuguese. There is a chapel inside the fort, and it is still a place of worship. The Britons took over the fort in the 18th century and converted it into a prison. The Chapora fort was constructed by Adil Shah of Bijapur, Karnataka. The entire structure is made of red laterite. Underground tunnels are one of the prominent features of the Chapora Fort. And not least, Fort Aguada is perhaps one of the most popular attractions of Goa. This fort was constructed during 1609-12 AD to prevent attacks on old Goa by the Marathas and Dutch. The Light House is one of the main attractions of the fort.

Much like the forts, the churches of Goa are prime places of tourist attraction. Basilica of Bom Jesus is a well-known church situated in Old Goa and has great significance among the Christian community. The church has 16th-century architecture and is made up of white marble.

It is also the first minor Basilica in India. The St. Cajetan Church in Panjim is popularly called the Church of Our Lady of Divine Providence. This church is made of laterite blocks that are coated with lime, and its architectural brilliance is its speciality. The Church of St. Anne, also known as Santana, the Church of St. Anne is a magnificent blend of Indian and European design. It is located on the bank of the Siridaro River, and The Feast of St. Anne is celebrated in the church on the 26th of July every year.

Tourists in Goa definitely look forward to some adrenaline rush, and what more than water sports here One can enjoy a bird’s eye view of Goa when you soar high in the sky. A 300 feet rope will connect you to a speedboat for an awesome parasailing experience. Goa is a paradise for water surfers. The waves can be anywhere between 5 feet to 10 feet high, which will give any water sailor enthusiast the adrenaline rush. Even Scuba diving and Snorkelling are enjoyed by tourists here. They explore the beautiful marine life by indulging in scuba diving and snorkelling. One can see fishes like angelfish, batfish, stonefish, sea whips, snappers and morays under the sea.

The wildlife sanctuaries in Goa have more than 1500 documented species of plants, over 48 types of birds, more than 60 breeds of reptiles and 275 plus species of birds. Gaur is the state animal of Goa. Deciduous trees such as cashew, mango, teak and Sal are found in Goa. Blackberry, mango, pineapple and jack grout are the common fruits found in the state.

The fairs and festivals in Goa give tourists another compelling reason to visit the state. Popular fairs and festivals like the Feast of St. Francis Xavier, Shigmo, Three Kings Feast, Goa Carnival, Bonderam Festival and the Sao Jao Festival draw huge crowds. Festivals are not complete without music, dance and food. The staple Goan food has rice and fish curry with fried fish and pickles. A delicacy such as Kingfish in Garlic and prawn bachao has local as well as Portugal flavours. When in Goa, one must try delicacies, including mackerel, shark, pomfret, shellfish, lobster, mussels and tuna.

Besides roadside stores and shops selling branded stuff, there are some really good boutiques in Goa run by local designers. Visit the Friday market at Mapusa and Wednesday Flea market at Anjuna to buy everything from electronic gadgets to dry fish, beach wear and spices. The people here are friendly, and tourists easily communicate in English. It's tropical here, so hot and humid in summer. The ideal time to visit is between November and March when humidity is low. But then, if you want to enjoy the rain and experience the natural beauty of Goa at its best, plan a trip between July-September.
