An Insight into Khajjiar Tourism

A Bit of Switzerland here in India…

Khajjiar is a woodsy valley with a placid lake in its center and Pine forests around it. This visually delightful stretch is of around a mile or so, situated at a height of 1,920 m above sea level and lies between Dalhousie and Chamba Town. Cattles grazing in meadows, fresh air, clear blue sky, tall pine trees and the floating clouds make this place heavenly beautiful. The three eco systems – pasture, lake and forest, together in one place enhance the beauty of Khajjiar. Initially developed and maintained as a golf course by the Brit, Khajjiar’s wavy meadow is a popular picnic spot, at present. The lake has definitely shrunk over the decades, nevertheless its beauty is timeless. A paved walkway encircles the lake for visitors to stroll around and enjoy the breath-taking views.

A hamlet to unwind and relax, Khajjiar a handful of places for sightseeing. The place is famous for its 12th-century Khajinag temple. The Hindu temple dedicated to snakes and has a golden dome and spire.

The ornate wood carvings adds to the grandeur of this temple. Panchpula is also visited by tourist. It is a serene parkland with a small waterfall & a monument of patriot Ajit Singh. Dainkund Peak is a delight for trekkers here. This picturesque mountain has a temple atop and the views from there are spectacular. The uphill trek to the temple is worthy of the effort. Some other places that keep tourist engaged in this quaint little Indian hill station are Pohlan Devi Temple, Chamera Reservoir, Jagdamba Temple, Jandrighat Palace, and Rock Garden at Devi Dehra. Paragliding, horse riding, zorbing, trekking and other activities will keep the restless ones busy.
