An Insight into Vaishno Devi Tourism

Mata Vaishno Devi is the manifestation of the Hindu Goddess Mata Adi Shakti. The incarnations are Maha Kali, Parvati, Durga and more. The words "Mata" comes from the India word "Maa" for "mother", and thus is used in for Vaishno Devi: Also known as Mata Rani, Trikuta and Vaishnavi, Vaishno Devi Goddess temple is a highly revered Hindu temple dedicated to her.

One amongst the 108 Shakti Peetha for Goddess Adi Shakti, the temple here has three manifestations of the Goddess Adi Shakti, namely Mata Maha Kali, Mata Maha Lakshmi and Mata Maha Saraswati are here in the cave temple, in the shape of three natural rock formations called Pindies. No statues or idols are present here. It is believed that Mata Vaishno Devi or Mata Rani is a manifestation of Goddess Durga. Hindus have a deep set believe on Mata Vaishno Devi and lakhs of devotees pay visit to the shrine every year. The unflinching faith makes this tough journey possible for all.

As the Hindu mythology explains, it was during the period when the Goddess was busy in annihilating the Asuras, three main manifestations of Her i.e., Mata Maha Kali, Mata Maha Lakshmi and Mata Maha Saraswati got together on a day and accumulated their collective spiritual strength. A blazing light radiated and a radiantly beautiful small girl emerged out of this collation of collective spiritual strength. The young girl questioned her existence, to which the Goddesses explained that they had created her to live on earth and uphold righteousness. Further follows the legends of Mata Vaishno Devi and how her devotees were blessed to overcome toughest situations of life.

Perched atop the Trikuta hills, 12 km from Katra (in Jammu & Kashmir) the sanctorum is at the height of altitude of 5200 ft. above sea level. An uphill trekking of 12 km is required to reach the cave temple or the sanctorum. 

The trek is very enjoyable, as the entire route is generously paved with lots and lots of tuck-shops selling juices, cold drinks, tea & coffee, snacks, wholesome meals, various religious goods and other items of necessity. The devoted & enthusiastic pilgrims walk the distance shouting slogans and singing devotional songs in the praise of Mata Vaishno Devi, the entire distance. This euphoria is an experience for life. Kids, elderly people and the unwell might find it difficult to cover the entire stretch walking uphill. However, one can hire ponies, palanquins and electric driver vehicles available by various  vendors for the entire or half-way journey.

Reliable and cost effective helicopter services are also be hired up to Sanjichhat, which is around 9.5 km from Katra and rest 3 km to Bhawan has to be covered by walking through comfortable alleys.

The holy bhawan or the sanctum sanctorum is the destination that every devotee looks for and it is here he enter to the inner cave temple for final darshan of the Pindies. The Shrine Board maintains the Bhawan with all facilities for the convenience of pilgrims. There are adequate arrangements and facilities like free & rented accommodation; Toilets, Bathing zones, Bhojanalayas / Eateries: Post Office: Banks: Telephone Booths; Announcement Centers Blanket Stores; Cloak Rooms: Medical Dispensary (with a ICU); General Stores; Police Station and more.

Vaishno Devi darshan is a blissful experience for pilgrims. The sky touching mountains, the greenery around, the fresh air and the aura of positivity quenches the search of peace and inner strength of devotees.
