With two of its manmade lakes dividing Bhopal, it is now a perfect fusion of history and modernity

Split by two man-made lakes, Bhopal the capital of Madhya Pradesh state is a town with two distinctly contrasting city spaces. Bhopal towards the north of the lakes is overshadowed with Muslim inhabited old city, which is fascinating with beautiful mosques and crowded marketplaces or bazaars. The female Islamic rulers of Bhopal, who ardently worked for the development of the city in the 19th century. The city has spectacular architectural remains of the era like majestic mosques with classic Mughal architectures. The Taj-Ul-Masjid, Moti Masjid, Jama Masjid, Idgah and many other monuments here epitomize the beauty of Mughal workmanship & architectures. Bhopal was primitively known as "Bhoj-pal" after Raja Bhoj, who founded the city.

Bhopal in nutshell, has innumerable places to visit.

When done with sightseeing, visit the old city market - the chowk bazaar for some street shopping with great bargains on bead work and the hand embroidered articles. Bhopal is also known for Nawabi food, which is an absolute delight for foodies.
